Bishop David Oyedepo, the Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Regents at Covenant University and founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, disclosed that he studied nine prestigious international universities, including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Caltech, MIT, Stanford, Duke, and Dartmouth, as a foundation for creating Covenant University.
Covenant University, established by Oyedepo, has reached an impressive milestone, becoming Nigeria’s top university and ranking sixth in both West Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa in the 2025 Times Higher Education World Universities Ranking.
The university’s remarkable ranking was revealed during its 19th Convocation ceremony, which took place at its campus in Ota, Ogun State.
Oyedepo utilized the knowledge acquired from these institutions to develop the university’s core values, leading to distinctive outcomes. He claims that this strategic method has been successful, as Covenant University strengthens its status as a premier institution in Nigeria and West Africa, offering students high-quality education.
He mentioned that although nothing was directly copied, they drew significant inspiration from those studies, which ultimately helped shape their core values and make their products distinctive. He expressed that his enthusiasm was ignited by the desire to offer an alternative education of high quality that could help these young people avoid long-term crises.
