The West African Examinations Council WAEC has officially announced the schedule for the Computer-Based Tests CBT for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE for Private Candidates, Second Series. This year’s exam marks a significant shift in the format, blending digital technology with traditional methods.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, WAEC confirmed that the CBT exams are slated to begin on Friday, October 25, 2024, and will run through Friday, December 20, 2024. This hybrid approach is designed to streamline the examination process and enhance the experience for candidates.
WAEC explained that the objective or multiple-choice sections of the exam would be conducted entirely online. Candidates will view the questions on a computer screen and submit their answers digitally. However, candidates will still be required to write their responses in traditional answer booklets provided at the exam venue for essay and practical components.
Extension of Registration Deadline and Walk-in Option
In an effort to accommodate more candidates, WAEC has extended the registration deadline for the WASSCE CBT exams. The new deadline for registration is Tuesday, October 29, 2024, giving prospective candidates additional time to complete their registration.
To further enhance flexibility, WAEC has introduced a new Walk-in Candidate feature. This option allows students to register as late as 24 hours before their chosen exam date. This innovative approach provides candidates with last-minute opportunities to participate in the exams, ensuring that no one is left out due to time constraints.
Candidates are advised to visit the official WAEC Nigeria website to access the final examination timetable. This will provide a comprehensive schedule for all subjects, ensuring students can adequately prepare and plan for their exams.
Study Resources and Technological Advancements
WAEC also highlighted the importance of utilising the various study resources available to candidates. In its statement, WAEC encouraged students to sign up for the WAEC e-Study platform to access a wealth of study materials, including past questions and answers. In addition, candidates can interact with peers and exchange ideas on the WAECKonnect platform, creating a supportive community of learners.
The Council emphasised its ongoing commitment to incorporating technological innovations to improve the exam process and make its services more accessible. WAEC will continue to deploy technological advancements to enhance the candidate experience and ensure a smooth examination process, the statement read. WAEC concluded by wishing all candidates success in their upcoming exams.
This year, WASSCE CBT represents a new chapter in the Council’s efforts to modernise the examination system while maintaining the integrity and rigour that WAEC is known for. Candidates are encouraged to take advantage of the extended registration window and prepare thoroughly for the exams.
