President Tinubu Congratulates U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Seeks Stronger Ties Between Nigeria and America

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, the Republican candidate who emerged victorious in the 2024 presidential race. In an official statement released by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Trump’s leadership and emphasised his own readiness to enhance U.S.-Nigeria relations.

In the congratulatory message, Tinubu stated, “Trump’s victory symbolises the trust and confidence the American people have placed in his leadership once again.” Acknowledging the power of democratic values, he praised the American electorate for their engagement and commitment to democratic principles, which underscore the essence of true governance.

Reflecting on Trump’s previous tenure as the 45th U.S. President from 2017 to 2021, Tinubu voiced optimism that Trump’s experience navigating global affairs would further deepen diplomatic and economic relations with Nigeria and the African continent. He emphasised the opportunities for renewed partnerships, with particular focus on areas such as trade, technology, security, and sustainable development.

Together, we can foster economic cooperation, promote peace, and tackle global challenges that affect our citizens, Tinubu stated. This aligns with Nigeria’s objectives to build constructive international alliances that contribute to domestic growth and regional stability.

According to Tinubu, Trump’s anticipated return to the White House signals a hopeful period for mutually beneficial policies that support economic development and resource-sharing between the U.S. and Africa. Tinubu believes that under Trump’s leadership, these partnerships could lead to strategic investments in Africa’s technology, energy, and manufacturing sectors.

This congratulatory message underscores President Tinubu’s focus on building global alliances as Nigeria seeks sustainable development pathways. With Trump poised to return to the helm of U.S. leadership, Nigeria is positioning itself to forge stronger ties with the U.S., bringing forth a vision for collaboration that could benefit citizens of both nations and enhance global stability.
