Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO), revealed that forty schools participated in widespread cheating during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). This took place in seventeen states, and the schools will face disciplinary measures.
During a press briefing at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, Professor Wushishi revealed a 30.1% decrease in examination malpractice compared to the previous year. He stated that in 2024, there were 8,437 candidates involved in different types of malpractice, a notable decrease from the 12,030 reported in 2023.
He stated that the number of candidates engaged in different types of malpractice in 2024 is 8,437, compared to 12,030 in 2023, indicating a decrease of 30.1%. He indicated that 21 supervisors in 12 states were suggested for blacklisting.
These supervisors were found guilty of inadequate oversight, aiding students in cheating, abandoning their responsibilities, extortion, being intoxicated, and negligence. He also noted that during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), 40 schools across 17 states were discovered to be engaged in widespread cheating.
The Council will invite these schools for a discussion, following which suitable sanctions will be imposed. A school in Ekiti was suggested for de-recognition due to widespread cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
In 12 states, 21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to issues such as poor supervision, aiding and abetting, absconding, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.
Finally, Wushishi announced that at this point, he would like to officially declare that the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results for internal candidates are now released to the public.
With this release, candidates can now view their results on the NECO website, www.neco.gov.ng, using their examination registration number.
