The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed its support for the decision by the Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) to establish a committee to investigate allegations of sexual harassment and extortion leveled against the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Abayomi Fasina. The VC is accused of making inappropriate emotional advances toward the institution’s Deputy Director of Works.
In response to these allegations, the law firm of Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa & Co., representing Professor Fasina, has dismissed the accusations as baseless. The firm emphasised the importance of addressing unfounded claims and providing accurate information to counter what they termed false narratives.

NANS, in a statement signed by its Senate President, Afeez Akinteye, on Sunday, praised the Governing Council for taking proactive steps to address the issue. The association described the council’s decision as a reflection of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice within the institution. NANS has urged the investigative committee to carry out its duties with utmost professionalism, impartiality, and objectivity to uncover the truth behind the allegations.
The student body emphasised the importance of granting Professor Fasina a fair hearing during the investigation, stressing that justice must prevail. NANS warned against any attempts to turn the investigation into a witch hunt or to use it as a means to damage the reputation of any individual.
The association also acknowledged the concerns expressed by students on campus, many of whom have appealed for a balanced perspective on the matter. These students have consistently highlighted the Vice Chancellor’s reputation as a student-friendly administrator who has contributed significantly to the welfare and development of the FUOYE student community.
In conclusion, NANS reiterated its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at fostering fairness, peace, and the smooth continuation of academic activities at FUOYE and other institutions across the nation. The association affirmed its dedication to ensuring justice and maintaining harmony in the academic environment.
