The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced “Lekki Headmaster” by Kabir Alabi Garba as the prescribed novel for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Use of English subject. In the forthcoming UTME, approximately 15 questions will be drawn from the content of the novel. All candidates, regardless of their intended course of study or institution, are required to study the book in detail to excel in this section of the examination.
Why is “Lekki Headmaster” Important?
JAMB’s inclusion of a novel in the Use of English syllabus aims to evaluate candidates’ comprehension skills, critical thinking, and understanding of key themes, characters, and plot elements. The choice of “Lekki Headmaster” broadens students’ literary exposure and encourages reading habits among Nigerian youth.
Candidates are advised to:
- Obtain an authentic copy of “Lekki Headmaster” from recognised bookstores.
- Read thoroughly, paying attention to the storyline, character development, and themes.
- Practice past questions and join study groups for discussions about the book.
