Dr. Olaitan Adesomoju, the immediate past president of the Federal University of Technology, Akure Alumni Association Worldwide, has contributed one million naira towards the renovation of the university’s Students Union Building.
During his donation on Friday, November 8, Olaitan, who served as the vice president of the Students Union in the 1999/2000 academic session, explained that the donation was his way of giving back to his alma mater.
He expressed that the university community has given him so much, and he feels privileged to demonstrate his continued commitment through this donation. Adesomoju urged other alumni to continue supporting the university’s growth and progress while highlighting some of his contributions to FUTA.
These include redesigning student ID cards, establishing the Alumni Events Centre, which continues to generate revenue for the association, renovating Block C of Akindeko Hall, initiating the Alumni Trust Fund, drilling a borehole at the FUTA Teaching and Research Farm, and refurbishing the Engr—Tunde Babalola basketball and volleyball court with a donation of 3.2 million naira.
Remarks From the VC and Dean of Students
In her response, Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji expressed gratitude to Dr. Adesomoju for his generosity and consistent support of the university’s needs. She praised him as an important partner in the university’s progress and encouraged other alumni to follow his exemplary example. She also advised the student leaders to use the funds responsibly.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor David Oke, stated that Dr. Adesomoju has consistently demonstrated leadership through both his actions and words. He described him as an alumnus deeply concerned about the well-being and interests of the students and assured that he would oversee the proper use of the donation.
Similarly, the Student Union president, Mr. Adegoroye Abejoye, praised the donor for his generosity in contributing to the renovation of the Student Union Building, calling it a promise kept.
