Authorities Accuse 3 Fired Police Officers of Killing a Kwara Student

The Kwara State Police Command has taken three former police officers to court on charges of conspiracy and culpable homicide. The accused individuals, Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip, appeared before a Kwara State High Court on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. This information was revealed in a statement issued on Friday by DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Kwara State.

The statement revealed that the Kwara State Police Command wants to inform the public that the three dismissed officers, Mr Abiodun Kayode, Mr James Emmanuel, and Mr Oni Philip, were charged in court on October 16, 2024. They are facing charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide related to the death of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola. The officers have been remanded in prison custody while awaiting further court proceedings.

Earlier, the Kwara State Police Command pledged to prosecute the three officers found responsible for the alleged killing of Ishola, a second-year student at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Ishola, a 21-year-old student from the Department of Electrical Electronics at Kwara State Polytechnic, was reportedly killed by police during a stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin on September 4, 2024.
