The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced key updates concerning the registration process for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2025 First Series.
According to WAEC Nigeria, the registration process for the examination has already begun and will close on Monday, January 6, 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the official registration portal at waeconline.org.ng to complete their registration. However, they must first obtain the necessary Personal Identification Number (PIN) required for the process.
Candidates can purchase the registration PIN for ₦27,000 from various authorised outlets, including WAEC offices, accredited banks, designated registration centers, and recognised agents nationwide. WAEC has strongly advised prospective candidates to complete their registration early to avoid the challenges associated with last-minute registration rushes.
After securing the PIN, candidates should log on to the official registration website at http://waeconline.org.ng to complete the process. The registration deadline remains Monday, January 6, 2025.
WAEC Announces Introduction of Computer-Based Examinations
In addition to the registration updates, WAEC also shared new details about the format of the 2025 First Series examination. For the first time, the objective sections of the examination will be conducted using a computer-based testing (CBT) system. For the essay and practical components, a hybrid approach will be adopted. While questions will be displayed on computer screens, candidates will record their answers in traditional paper-based answer booklets.
This innovative format is part of WAEC’s broader strategy to integrate modern technology into its assessment processes. The council emphasised that this approach is designed to improve efficiency and ensure a seamless examination experience for candidates. The hybrid model combines the benefits of technological advancement with the familiarity of traditional methods, ensuring that all candidates can adapt effectively to the changes.
