A tragic accident involving a Borno State University staff bus and a truck on Njimtilo Road has claimed the lives of two students and left 23 others injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with the victims promptly rushed to Umaru Shehu Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
The state police command’s spokesperson, Mr Nahum Kenneth, reported that the crash involved a large truck colliding with the bus carrying 30 students at the time. The accident significantly damaged the bus, while emergency responders swiftly evacuated the injured to the hospital.
Among the casualties, a male and a female student were confirmed dead, and three other students remain unconscious and in critical condition. The spokesperson added that approximately 20 students received treatment for minor to severe injuries, while some students escaped unscathed.
The university community has been left in mourning as efforts continue to care for the injured and provide support to affected families. Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing, and authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution to prevent further tragedies on the roads. The incident has highlighted the need for improved road safety measures to protect lives.
