Forty-five Medical Laboratory Science students from Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, were officially inducted into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) on Tuesday.
This marks the third cohort to be inducted since the university’s establishment in 2004. The students were also granted provisional licenses to practice. Professor Shola Babatunde, Head of the Medical Laboratory Science Department, revealed that all 45 inductees successfully passed the final professional MLSCN examination, with 32 earning Second-Class Upper Division honours and 13 achieving Second-Class Lower Division honours.
The announcement was made during the Oath-Taking and Induction Ceremony held at the school’s auditorium in Adeta, Ilorin. The Head of Department explained that the provisional license was issued to allow the inductees to embark on the mandatory one-year internship program. He urged the students to uphold integrity, honesty, diligence, and perseverance, emphasising that the knowledge gained from the university should be used to serve humanity rather than exploit it.
Remarks From The Dean and VC
The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Olabode Kayode, praised the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, and the entire university management for creating a supportive environment that fosters success for both students and staff.
Addressing the newly inducted members, he urged them to maintain strong ties with the department and the university, emphasising the various ways they can contribute to improving the lives of those they are leaving behind and enhancing Al-Hikmah University’s reputation as a leader in global best practices in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS).
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for permitting the university to utilise the state’s General Hospital, Sobi, as its Teaching Hospital, noting that this development had significantly enhanced the institution’s standing. He also commended the parents for their unparalleled love and dedication to their children, describing their care and support for the inductees as extraordinary.
Delivering a keynote address on the theme “Innovation and Technology in Medical Laboratory Science Practice: Prospects and Challenges,” Prof. Abdulrazaq Nuhu, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at Kwara State University, Malete, encouraged the inductees to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their professional practices to enhance efficiency and innovation.
