3,283 Student Loan Applications Approved by NELFUND — UI

The University of Ibadan’s management has announced that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has approved loan applications for 3,283 of its students.

In an internal memo released on Wednesday, management stated that although the loans had been approved, the funds had not yet been received.

The memo, signed by the institution’s Registrar, G. O. Salisu, directed department heads to allow students with approved loans to participate in the first-semester exams.

Salisu mentioned that following their circular REG/13/I.26 dated 13 September 2024, he is informing the University of Ibadan community that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has released a list of 3,283 students whose loan applications have been approved.

The list of affected students has been sent to the departments, though the university has not yet received the funds. All Department Heads have been directed to permit these students to take the first-semester exams for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Staff and students are required to take note of this information and adhere to it strictly.

Students at the University of Ibadan initiated a protest following the governing council’s approval of a tuition fee increase by the university management.

The protests, which started at midnight last Friday, were reportedly sparked by a notice released by the council’s secretary, G.O. Saliu, the previous Thursday.

Following a meeting on Thursday, the council reviewed and approved the updated schedule of levies for both newly admitted and returning undergraduate students for the 2023/2024 academic session, as recommended by the university Senate.

It was also mentioned that students who have not yet paid and completed their registration are advised to do so by Wednesday, September 4, 2024, so that departments can download the lists of registered students and prepare for the first-semester exams.
